ICC U-19 World Cup 2018, India v/s Australia: 6 key players who can win the final for Dravid's boys

India have made it to the final of the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup final. India have been a tough side to beat at the under-19 level and the current squad under Prithvi Shaw seems to be one of the best sides to represent India in this world cup. 

They have dominated the tournament so far and will be the favourites when they take on Australia in final. 

Many of the under-19 stars have went on to shine at the senior level as well in the past and there are many names in Rahul Dravid-coached side who could be future stars. Many have already attracted huge bids in the IPL auction. 

Here is a look at 5 key players who could guide India to another under-19 world cup win and may make it big at the senior level:

Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw was a name to watch out for evem before this world cup. At the age of 14, he slammed a record-breaking 546 in an inter-school Harris Shield match in 2013. He then went on to score hundreds on debut in both Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy. A certain Sachin Tendulkar is the only one to have done so earlier. There is no surpise that Shaw is constantly compared to the Master Blaster. 

Shaw, captain of the side, has been in great nick in the ongoing Under-19 World Cup. He scored a 94 against Australia in the opening match and have made useful contributions at the top in the other matches. Shaw has accumulated 232 runs in five World Cup matches at an average of 77.73 so far.

Shaw, bought by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 1.2 crore in IPL auction , will be the key player for India. If his side win the match, Shwa will become the fourth captain after Mohammed Kaif (2000), Virat Kohli (2008) and Unmukt Chand (2012) to lift the ICC U-19 World Cup.

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has been the star of the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup. The 18-year-old has been India's best batsman in the tournament making scored of 63 against Australia, 90* against Zimbabwe and 86 against Bangladesh in the quarterfinals. On Tuesday, he came up with another outstanding performance, scoring an unbeaten hundred to fashion India’s 203-run victory over Pakistan in the second semi-final at Hagley Oval.

Gill has accumulated 341 runs in five matches so far with an average of 170.50 and a strike rate of 113.28. He is second highest scoring bastman of the under-19 world cup, only behind West Indian Alick Athanaze (418 runs). 

Kamlesh Nagarkoti

Kamlesh Nagarkoti has been grabbed by Kolkata Knight Riders for a whooping Rs 3.2 crore at the IPL auction and there is a reason for that. The pacer has spearheaded the Indian pace attack with Shivam Mavi and Ishan Phorel and constantly strcuk speed in the high 140s and once even bowled in over 150kmph. 

The 18-year-old, from Rajasthan, made his List A debut for his state team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on February 26, 2017. He claimed a hat-trick against Gujarat. With this, he became the first player from Rajasthan to take a hat-trick in List A cricket.

Nagarkoti has 7 wickets in 5 matches in the tournament with an exceptional average of 15.14. with 3/18 in quarter-final against Bangladesh. 

Shivam Mavi


Shivam Mavi has also consistently bowled in the range of 140-145 kph. He has bagged 8 wickets in the under-19 world cup so far at an impressive average of 15.50. Mavi will be a key played in the final after his spell of 3/45 against Australia in the group match.

Shivam, who hails from Noida in Uttar Pradesh, caught the attention of national selectors in the zonal Challengers tournament where he bagged 9 wickets in 4 matches.

Shivam will join Nagarkoti at Kolkata Knight Riders after they Rs 3 crore for the during the IPL auction last week. 

Anukul Roy

Anukul Roy was rewarded for his performance in the ongoing Under-19 World Cup, when was also snapped up by Mumbai Indians at his base price of Rs 20 lakh.

The all-rounder is currently having an outstanding ICC U-19 World Cup picking 11 wickets in 4 matches. The Jharkhand-born player is known for his wicket-taking abilities.

Anukul was adjudged Man of the Match in India’s recent encounter with Papua New Guinea, where his spell of 5-14 helped India bowl out the minnows for 64, which in turn the boys in Blue chased comfortably.

Abhishek Sharma

Abhishek Sharma belongs to the breed of 3D cricketers. He can bat, bowl and is a very good fielder. He hasn't had the chance to impress with bat in the ongoing U-19 World Cup, scoring only 78 runs in 5 matches. But he has earned six wickets with his nagging left-arm spin at an exeptional average of 11. 

He will be part of the Delhi Daredevils squad in IPL who picked him up for Rs 55 lakh at the auction.
