The latest controversy to engulf Indian cricket seems to be getting murkier by the day. When the captain and coach of a team are at loggerheads, even a match as exciting as the one against Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 can take a back-seat.

There was no shortage of drama in Team India's net session after their victory over Bangladesh in the second warm-up game on Tuesday. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, as Anil Kumble approached the nets with the side-arm, skipper Virat Kohli walked away. This is possibly as bad it can get for a team looking to defend a major international trophy.

There are multiple theories floating around to decipher the reason for these icy cold vibes between these two important decision-makers of the Indian cricket team.

Kumble asks the BCCI for a  massive pay-hike for the staff and players, and soon after he has a fallout with the captain - is that too much of a coincidence? Was something as trivial as picking rookie spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the Australia Test series a couple of months ago the reason why the stalwarts fell apart?

Whatever the reason may be, there's no doubt that this is the last scenario Team India needed to find itself in at this point.

Meanwhile, Indian cricket legends Sunil Gavaskar and Harbhajan Singh have had their say in this matter.

"You will never have a situation where the captain and the coach in any country are on the same page. They will always be a little difference of opinion. The coach is invariably someone who belongs to an earlier generation or the just finished generation," said Gavaskar.

"So the thought process, the approach, the attitude towards the game is slightly different. It might not be something actually happening on the field. It could be something to do with practice sessions or team combinations. I don't think that should be taken too seriously because these discussions are healthy for the team."

Harbhajan, who spent the better part of his career bowling alongside Kumble, complete backed the former leg-spinner.

"Anil Kumble is strict, you can always talk to him about cricket. He's very hard working and believes that one shouldn't leave the match till the last ball. He's strict but he responds to hard work more than just talent. As a coach, I am sure he's going to bring a lot of good to Indian cricket. One can also see his results of last year," said Bhajji.

"Only present players will be able to tell what his (Kohli's) relations with Anil bhai are. In my 15 years of playing with him, there has been no instance of any fight with him and he's the best bowling mind in cricket, he's always there to help. He's been brilliant and he has played a major role in making me what I am today and I would like to thank him for that."
