Over the past few years, an area where Team India has improved immensely has been their fast bowling stocks. From being regarded as spin-dominated attacks the Indian team has transformed into an enviable pace battery, which has fast bowlers of every kind across the formats.

One of the most important components of the pace battery which included the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami opened up about the new era of fast bowlers and the role of skipper Virat Kohli in the same to commentator and analyst Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz.

"Having five quality fast bowlers in your line-up, you can attribute it to the luck of the Indian team or their hard work, but Virat has always been supportive of his fast bowlers and he has also given us freedom," he said.

Shami further elaborated on Kohli's captaincy saying that he never puts them under pressure and backs them and their plans to the hilt.

"As far as our fast bowling goes, Kohli has never put us under pressure. It never feels like you are standing in front of Virat Kohli. He acts like a childhood friend,” Shami said.

Although he said that Kohli does get aggressive and loses his cool but all for the benefit of the team. “Sometimes he (Kohli) gets very funny, sometimes he gets aggressive. That we don’t mind. We are all playing for the country. He gives us complete freedom to do execute our plans. No captain will give you so much freedom,” Shami said.

Shami will play an important role as the Indian team embark on the journey to the United Kingdom for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand followed by five-match Test series against New Zealand.
