Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad has revealed on Twitter that India's hero in the second ODI against Sri Lanka, Deepak Chahar was once rejected by the former Indian team coach Greg Chappell for height at the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) after his match-winning knock, on Tuesday.

Deepak Chahar played an exceptional knock of 69* runs off 82 balls helping Team India come from behind and snatch the victory from jaws of defeat after they were down and out at 193/7 with all their main batsmen in the shed and they still needed 83 runs to win the game. Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar stitched an unbeaten 84-run stand off just 87 balls for the eighth wicket to help India get over the line in the final over and take an unassailable lead in the three-match series.

Prasad took to Twitter to reveal that Chappell had told Chahar that he should quit cricket and find some other job while suggesting that players shouldn't take overseas coaches seriously, with exceptions of course.

"Deepak Chahar Was rejected by Greg Chappell at RCA for his height and told to look at a different occupation. And he single handedly won a match with not even his primary skills. Moral of the story- Believe in yourself and don't take overseas coaches too seriously," Prasad wrote in the tweet.

"There are off-course exceptions but with such wonderful talent in India, it's time that teams and franchisees consider having  Indian coaches and mentors as much as possible," he further added.

Chappell's infamous stint with the Indian team from 2005 to 2007 is still known for the spat he had with the then Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. Chappell had a great run with the team when they won 17 matches consecutively, however, he was shown the door after their poor showing in the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup.

After which, he took a position as an academy coach for Rajasthan Royals, where he met Deepak Chahar and apparently, that is when the incident took place.
