The day has finally come. It's time to bid goodbye to a loyal servant of Indian cricket. Team India's second ODI against Sri Lanka in Mohali on December 13 will be Dhoni's last day in office. Wait, what are you thinking? Mahendra Singh Dhoni is going nowhere anytime soon!

We are talking about Dhoni, the sniffer dog, who has worked for the Mohali district police for the past 10 years. He has helped immensely with the security at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium during his career.

Virat Kohli's men are currently locked in battle with the Lankans in a three-match Test series. Once that is done, the two nations with compete in a three-match ODI series starting at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, followed by a T20 series with the same number of matches.

The second match of the ODI series will most-likely be Dhoni the dog's last match before he retires. He won't be the only one retiring that day, as John and Preeti will join him too. Mohali district police will hold a formal reception for the trio once they retire. Dhoni, a white Labrador, will the be up for adoption after that, with a base price of Rs 800.

“Dhoni used to assist us in checking at PCA stadium during the international matches. During the world cup semifinal in 2011 between India and Pakistan, when the Prime Ministers of both the countries came to the city, Dhoni was working with us," Amrik Singh, Dhoni's caretaker, was quoted as saying by The Indian Express and Chandigarh Newsline.

“He likes to sleep six to seven hours a day. He sleeps in the daytime. He is a specialist in sniffing explosives. He is the quickest of the dogs we have when it comes to do any search operations. We are going to miss him. He has been a great asset for us," added Singh.
