St Kitts and Nevis Patriots chased down a record target of 242 runs against Jamaica Tallawahs on Tuesday and registered the highest ever run-chase in the history of the tournament despite Chris Gayle's record knock in the Caribbean Premier League 2019.

On the chase of 242, St Kitts batsmen got off to an excellent start with openers Devon Thomas and Evin Lewis posting an 85-run partnership inside the opening six overs of the game.

Jamaica's all-rounder Andre Russell dismissed Lewis (53) to bring his side back into the game but when Laurie Evans came out to bat and stitched together a stand of 76 runs with Thomas, things started to go downhill.

It was Oshane Thomas who finally broke the partnership and sent Evans (41) back to the pavilion, as St Kitts stood on 161/2 in the 12th over.

Jamaica then picked up three back-to-back wickets in quick succession as St Kitts went down to 177/5.

It was Fabian Allen and Shamarh Brooks who built a 50-run partnership to take St Kitts even closer to victory.

Even though Brooks (27) was dismissed in the second last over, Allen secured St Kitts and Nevis' record-breaking victory by four wickets with seven balls still to play.

Earlier, Jamaica Tallawahs opener Chris Gayle scored his highest CPL score of 116 and helped his side post a record target of 241 runs.

This was the highest score by anyone in the history of the tournament ever and also Gayle's 22nd T20 hundred as well.

St Kitts upon winning the toss, sent Jamaica to bat first who lost their first wicket with 37 runs on the board.

Gayle was then joined by Chadwick Bolton as both batsmen hammered St Kitts bowlers all around the park. The pair managed to build a 162-run partnership as Gayle brought up his ton and Bolton securing his half-century.

Walton's (73) wicket was picked up by Joseph in the 18th over and Gayle (116) too was removed in the final over, as the side managed to post a score over the 240-run mark.

Brief Scores: St Kitts and Nevis Patriots 242/6 (Devon Thomas 71, Evin Lewis 53, Oshane Thomas 4-53) defeat Jamaica Tallawahs 241/4 (Chris Gayle 116, Chadwick Bolton 73, Fabian Allen 2-30) by four wickets.
