Yes, India can defend their ICC Champions Trophy title, but with a rider. They can do it only if they manage to overcome two tough opponents.

Team India is very strong because of the extraordinary horoscope of captain Virat Kohli. Kohli definitely has it in him to win one or two ICC trophies. His combination with head coach Anil Kumble, who too has some karmic quota of success left in him, only augurs well for India.

However, the holders have to overcome the mighty South Africans and the new powerhouse England in their pursuit of defending the crown.

Proteas captain AB de Villiers has never won an ICC tournament despite possessing a great horoscope and this could be his best chance to do so. Coach Russell Domingo too has a good chart.

But the bigger challenge for India will come from the re-jigged English team. The hosts, led by Eoin Morgan, can go on to become a great side that can win some important tournaments. This could be the start.

As for Australia, they are a strong team and will have a shot because the young squad under captain Steve Smith has not won anything significant so far. But till Darren Lehmann remains their coach, Australia will find it difficult to win a major event as he has already won many laurels as player and coach.

While Pakistan’s Sarfraz Ahmed, Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews and Bangladesh’s Mashrafe Mortaza lead relatively weaker teams, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is a tad younger to win a tournament of this magnitude.

Thus, England, South Africa and India have the best chances to win the 2017 Champions Trophy, with Australia having an outside chance.
