India's premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is making heads turn with his splendid performances. Now breaking another record, the pacer enjoyed a routine outing with the red ball as India reduced West Indies to 189 for 8 in the first Test against the West Indies on Friday. 

Bumrah becomes the quickest Indian fast bowler to 50 wickets in Test cricket after dismissing Darren Bravo on Day 2. He bagged it in his 11th appearance.

Fewest Tests to take 50 wickets for India in Test cricket (fast bowlers):

  • 11 J Bumrah
  • 13 V Prasad/ Mohd Shami
  • 14 I Pathan/ S Sreesanth
  • 16 K Ghavri/ Kapil Dev 

Bumrah reached the milestone faster than Venkatesh Prasad and Mohammed Shami who had taken 13 matches each to 50 Test wickets. Bumrah is also the 3 joint fastest Indian bowler along with Narendra Hirwani and Harbhajan Singh to reach the milestone figure.

R Ashwin holds the record for the least number of matches to 50 Test wickets (9) while former India coach Anil Kumble stands 2nd on the list after having reached his 1st 50 Test wickets in just 10 matches.

However, Jasprit Bumrah is the fastest Indian bowlers (overall) to reach 50 wickets, if the number of balls are taken into account. Bumrah got his 50th Test wicket in his 2465th ball while Ashwin who had held the record previously needed 2597 balls.
