Blast from the Past: When Shardul Thakur smashed 6 sixes in an over

In the 49th over, Shardul Thakur smashed a six off Ben Stokes during the third ODI against England on Tuesday and interesting it was India’s first six in two matches.

For a team studded with big hitters, a boundary draught is a little difficult to comprehend and this shows the vulnerability of the side right now against the World No. 1 team, England.

Three deliveries later, Shardul pulled one over the backward square boundary for another six.

These shots from Shardul left the cricket enthusiasts on Twitter go berserk. More than they appreciated the batsman, they trolled Indian team because they needed a bowler to come and finally score a six for them.

However, not many are aware that Shardul’s six-hitting abilities go back to his school days. Shardul played for Swami Vivekanand School, which co-incidentally was alo Rohit Sharma’s school.

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) annually organises a prestigious cricket tournament for school - Harris Shield Cricket Tournament. During a Plate Division Harris Shield match against S Radhakrishnan School, a young Shardul had smashed six sixes in an over.

Shardul hammered spinner Vishal Dhruv over the mid-wicket region six times in one over on his way to a score of 160 in 73 balls, which included 10 sixes and 20 fours, on the second day of the match.

At that time, it was a Mumbai school record for both juniors and seniors. Gary Sobers of the West Indies and Ravi Shastri have also hit six sixes in an over. A year later, Yuvraj Singh became the six-sixes guy after he had pounded Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over during the inaugural 2007 World T20.
