Big Bash League 2018-19: Jason Sangha becomes youngest player to hit BBL fifty

Young debutant of Sydney Thunder – Jason Sangha claimed his maiden Big Bash League (BBL) half-century against the Melbourne Stars on Friday at Manuka Oval, Canberra. He became the youngest-ever player to hit a BBL fifty.

The 19-year-old, who is one of the most promising young batsmen in Australian domestic cricket, scored 63 runs in just 36 balls.

Touted as the next ‘Ricky Ponting’, Sangha lived up to the hype grabbing four fours and four sixes. He and Daniel Sams had a blossoming partnership of 77-run partnership.

The right-handed batsman along with Chris Green helped their side Sydney Thunder to score 181 for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.

The match was reduced to eight overs due to rains and gave the Stars the target of 90 runs. Having made 181 gave Sydney Thunder plenty of runs in the bag when the game was shortened. The Stars scored 74 runs for the fall of six wickets which helped the Thunders win by 15 runs.

From a situation where it seemed the teams will share a point, Sydney Thunder sit on top of the table with two points on the board while Melbourne Stars are seen at the bottom.
