Since Rishabh Pant was named as MS Dhoni's replacement in the national side, he has faced a lot of criticism from fans.

The southpaw's form with the bat, wicket-keeping skills and his suggestion to skipper over DRS calls have all been below average and has caused a lot of people to raise fingers towards his selection in the national side.

Fans have been urging the team management to give Sanju Samson a chance in the national side.

However, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has voiced his support of Pant by calling him a "special talent".

“These are selection matters which are dealt by selectors. But Rishabh (Pant) is a special talent and we saw how he played well in the two matches he played against West Indies."

"His record in Test cricket has been good but the end decision would be left to the selectors,” Ganguly told TOI.

Pant's wicketkeeping abilities have been under a lot of scrutinies as well, with BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad confirming that the 22-year-old will undergo training under specialist wicketkeeping coach to improve his skills behind the stumps.

"Pant needs to improve his keeping skills. We will have him work under a specialist wicket-keeping coach," Prasad told reporters.

Rishabh is part of the Indian squad which is taking on Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series on home turf.

After the first match in Guwahati ended in a washout on Sunday (January 5), the two sides will lock horns at Indore for the second T20I on Tuesday (January 7).
