Rohit Sharma has suggested that batting slots of No. 3, 4 and 6 are up for grabs and Team India will be experimenting different players for the same in the ongoing Asia Cup.

That statement from India’s stand-in-skipper, Rohit, made it clear that MS Dhoni will continue to bat at No. 5, despite the fact that a lot of cricket pundits have suggested that Dhoni could be pushed one slot up.

“Lot of spots are up for grabs like Nos 3, 4 and 6. All these guys (Kedar, Manish, Rayudu) are eyeing for those slots. We want to give chances to as many guys for this particular series. In this tournament, we need to seal the batting slot Nos 4 and 6,” Rohit said on the eve of the lung opener against Hong Kong.

They are both important members of this team. Rayudu was originally part of England series and similarly Kedar before his injury. It was unfortunate that they couldn’t play for some time and I am very happy that both are back in the team. I expect them to win matches for India,” said Rohit.

India’s recently ended England series exposed how vulnerable their middle-order has been for a while and which is why they have not been able to seal those positions to a particular batsman.

After a near loss to Hong Kong in their Asia Cup encounter on Tuesday, Rohit admitted that India's 26-run win over Hong Kong was a lesson for his side especially the inexperienced bowling attack.

India survived a small scare in defence of 286 after Nizakat Khan and Anshuman Rath stitched together 174 runs for the opening wicket.

Rohit Sharma said, “It was a great learning for the bowling group. To handle the situations was important. It was better to have this in the first game of the tournament.”

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Sharma said, “Not a lot of things went to plan. But to win the game is very important. We always knew it was not going to be easy. We had a pretty inexperienced bowling line up but having said that there are no excuses. We made our mistakes where we could have attacked or we could have defended better.

“This tournament is all about learning. And these guys will learn. But in the end, these guys have done the job in the past. When the going gets tough, you need characters and a couple of the characters did well.”
