Australia currently have a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series against England.

The hosts dismissed the Aussies for 179 on day one of the third Test match as pacer Jofra Archer secured his maiden Test five-wicket haul.

But England's hopes of establishing a first-innings lead was struck by lightning after Australian pacers demolished England’s batting order who managed to post only 67 runs on the board.

However, Jason Roy's struggles continued as he fell early for nine before Joe Root followed his golden duck at Lord's by lasting one more ball on his home ground without scoring.

Rory Burns went next, before England's in-form batsman Ben Stokes, on eight, went for a shot he did not need to and edged to David Warner -- one of four catches taken by the Australia opener.

Coming out on 54-6 after the morning session, the wickets continued to fall as Chris Woakes was out the first ball after lunch, with Australia making light work of the England tail to embarrass the hosts and extended their first innings lead to 283 runs at the end of day two.

Josh Hazlewood did the damage with the ball, taking 5-30 as Australia's pacemen proved too hot to handle for England, who posted their 12th lowest test innings of all time, which lasted less than 28 overs.

Australia will have four wickets in hand when play resumes tomorrow morning with Marnus Labuschagne and James Pattinson at the crease.

Labuschagne was quality again for Australia, standing strong on 53* off 139 deliveries.

Ben Stokes and Stuart Broad both struck twice with the ball for the hosts with Australia ending the day two on 171/6 in Leeds.
