India lost the first Test against England by 31 runs at the Edgbaston on Saturday.

Chasing 194 to win, the visitors were all out for 162 on the fourth day of the opening Test.

First-innings centurion Virat Kohli again top-scored for India, the skipper making a valiant 51.

Batting first, England were all out for 287 in the first innings and then bowled out India for 274 to take a slender lead.

In their second essay, England were bundled out for 180, but they came back strongly with their bowlers helping the hosts take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Ben Stokes picked up three wickets, including the big one of Kohli.

Big blow for India as they lose their most reliable batsman in Virat Kohli. Ben Stokes's clean delivery left no chance for the Indian captain. A very full ball from the English all-rounder trapped him in front of middle. The review showed Stokes' clean delivery is hitting the leg stump.

Kohli got a standing ovation as he walked towards the pavilion.

Two back to back shockers for India were enough to shake the confidence of the team. Ben Stokes striked again with a short length ball and Mohammed Shami's little nudge attempt lets it land in Jonny Bairstow's hands. Hardik Pandya will need to play the One Day game to keep the team from failing.

Rashid Ali (inspired by Stokes?) stunned Ishant Sharma with a googly. Initially, a 'not out' decision, Rashid's review call turned it in favour of the English side.

The ball sneaked past the inside edge and traps Sharma on middle and off.

Things look grim for Team India.

It's all over with Hardik Pandya's wicket.

Ben Stokes, who became the man of the hour by taking out Virat Kohli, ended the day and pocketed the first Test match for England with Hardik Pandya's wicket.

Pandya took the bait of full-length ball. Alastair Cook watched the ball in the air to patiently take the catch.
