Rain interrupted play on the second day of the second Test between India and England at Lord's in London on Friday.

After rain washed out the opening day without a ball being bowled, England skipper Joe Root today won the toss and elected to field against India.

England then reduced India to 11 for two in 6.3 overs before heavens opened up to halt the proceedings. At the break, Cheteshwar Pujara, who replaced Shikhar Dhawan in the playing XI, was at one and giving him company was skipper Virat Kohli (1).

Earlier, England won the first Test by 31 runs.

The play started finally on the second day after the opening day of the Lord's Test was washed out. The weather on Friday remained the same, cloudy and gloomy. It was as if the mother nature has set the platform for Jimmy Anderson to showcase his skills. In the very first over of the day, Anderson as expected, moving the ball like anything, confused Vijay, who attempts to play towards one-side ends up getting the top of his off-stump hit. Thanks to Jimmy Anderson, the English got to celebrate in the first over of the day itself. The Indian skipper chose to drop Shikhar Dhawan and bring back Chesteshwara Pujara, who then joined KL Rahul at the crease. PC: Reuters

The entire opening day of the second Test between India and England at the Lor's Cricket Ground was washed out. It was a sigh relief for the cricket fans when the toss happened followed by the play on Friday. However, after 6.3 overs, the rain stopped play again.

Just before Anderson delivered the second ball of the eighth over, it started raining again. While Anderson didn't move from his bowling mark, Kohli and Pujara ran off the field. It turned out to be frustrating as another long break anticipated at Lord's. However, as Anderson still on the field smiled, he watched the players take on the field again. The rain had stopped! Even though the conditions looked bad, the play resumed. What happened next only left the Indians annoyed. A misjudgment call from the Indian skipper got Pujara run out, a delivery before it started pouring again.

Suddenly, Lord's goes bright and sunny. There are no clouds menacing above, spectators have dumped their umbrellas and play has resumed on Day two here. We are expected to have some good two and a half-odd hours of play. Rahane and Kohli have walked in the middle to continue their innings. Their long breaks could worsen the already shook India's momentum in the ongoing innings. Let's see if Anderson can create any more damage today. PC: Reuters

Just in the previous delivery, Kohli got a life when Buttler was not alert enough at the second slips. Not this time though. A near perfect ball from Woakes, Kohli uses the full face of the bat for a flick and the edge carries to Buttler, who jumps to his right and takes a superb catch.

Buttler repeats the same Kohli episode with Hardik Pandya. First gives the batsman a life before finishing a catch to dismiss him.  After a sloppy fielding from Buttler gave Pandya four, Woakes goes around the off, Pandya in an attempt to defend on back foot ends up getting an edge due to the late movement and Buttler makes no mistake this time at second slips. He is like the luckiest person at Lord's today!

Sam Curran joins the party now. There have already been talks about picking Rishabh Pant in the next Test and with Karthik's this performance, that might just come true. Curran's ball swings from the hand, Karthik fails to make the right judgment, he makes the bat and pad gap according to the initial swing, but the ball has moved so much more. There was no chance for Karthik to beat that, he gets his stumps rattled. Sam Curran leaps in joy. Some scenes at Lord's right now.

As Sanjay Manjrekar rightly points out, "Defensive batting and slip catching are two skills that are hardly needed in T20 & 50 overs cricket. Those are the two skills that have really deteriorated today. We are all products of our environment as they say." Anderson returns to the attack, Rahane like others is beaten by the swing, tries to defend it on the front foot and an inside edge carries to Alastair Cook, who makes no mistakes and he completes a two-handed catch.

One after the other Indian batsmen has made the same mistake of reading Jimmy's swingers. Kuldeep here thought it would be an out-swinger, but he was wrong and gets trapped LBW.

A superb five-for for Jimmy Anderson and well deserving one. He made full use of the conditions favouring him as he has ripped apart the batting line-up of World No. 1 Indian side. The last man, Ishant Sharma becomes Jimmy's fifth victim for the day as he goes for a duck.
