Suryakumar Yadav emerged as one of the Domestic stars after the recently concluded season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 30-year old Mumbai batsman, who is still bereft of an India place remained in the news throughout the duration of the IPL for not just his batting form, but also a few more reasons.
One was the famous stare-off with the India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli. Yadav was playing exceptionally in that game taking the RCB bowling attack apart. At the end of an over Kohli started walking towards the crease while Suryakumar stood with a deadpan expression staring at the RCB skipper. Both players kept looking at each other before the Mumbai batsman just walked away to change the strike.
Talking about the incident, Suryakumar Yadav said that it was instinctive from both of them, they both wanted to win and he didn't expect it to become so big. Speaking to Sports Tak, Yadav said, "I have seen him this energetic in every game. It wasn't as if he was like this in the game against MI. Even when he plays for India or even in franchise cricket and against any team, he is aggressive and energy is always spot on. It was an important match for them (RCB) as well.
After the match, he was back to normal, he said - 'Well played, great knock'."
Yadav stayed unbeaten and took his side home. However, this innings followed his non-selection in the India's squads for Australia series.
Surya said that he was disappointed that he was not selected in the Indian team for the series against Australia as he was batting well and scoring runs. He added that not just in IPL, he has been scoring runs consistently in white-ball cricket for the last 2 years.
In the last 3 seasons of the IPL playing for Mumbai Indians, Yadav has scored 1,416 runs in 46 games at an average of 36.4.
"I was expecting to get that call. When I didn't get the call I was a little disappointed but the show must go on so I tried not to think too much about it," Surya said on Sports Tak.
Surya said that he was training in the gym as they had an off on the day of selection. He said that he wanted to divert his attention and didn't want to think about selection but couldn't even complete his training when the team was announced.
"I was then trying to think if there was any particular spot where I could have played in the Indian team and all that. I didn't feel like having dinner that night, wasn't speaking much with anybody and kept mostly to myself."
