Aaron Finch joined an elite list of Australia batsmen during the first ODI against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday after the hosts won the toss and chose to bat. When the Australian cricket team skipper pushed a full ball from Jasprit Bumrah  to mid on for a single, Aaron Finch became the second quickest batsman to score 5000 runs in ODIs for Australia. The right-hander achieved the milestone in his 126th ODI innings and he became the second-fastest to reach the landmark, behind his opening partner David Warner who took 115 innings to reach it. Hashim Amla is the quickest to reach the landmark, having taken 101 innings. Aaron Finch is the 16th Australian player to go past 5000 runs while overall, he is the joint-13th fastest, level with former India captain and current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

Australia won the toss and chose to bat in the first ODI in Sydney as international cricket made a comeback Down Under for the men. The final international match before the coronavirus pandemic stalled world cricket took place at the same venue against New Zealand in March. With cricket having resumed without any fans and behind closed doors ever since July, the India vs Australia ODI in Sydney will see fans at 50 percent capacity at the stadium in accordance with the social distancing norms.

Good build-up for India

The Indian cricket team arrived in Sydney after their end of the IPL 2020. The Indian cricket team players were allowed to train at the Blackpool Oval facility which is located in the outskirts of Sydney. Since the team was arriving from one bio-bubble in Dubai to another in Australia, the players were allowed to train and still remain in 14-day isolated quarantine.

On the other hand, the Australian players who came back from the IPL went back to their respective home states and the different rules and restrictions meant that they could not train as a team ahead of the ODI.

Steve Smith is making a comeback to the Australian cricket team after missing the couple of ODIs in England following a concussion-related injury. For India, Mayank Agarwal will open the innings with Shikhar Dhawan as India went in with only one spinner in Yuzvendra Chahal.
