India vs West Indies, 1st ODI Highlights: Virat, Rohit specials give hosts 1-0 lead

Rohit finishes things in style, lofts the first ball of the over from Hemraj for a six.

The Indian vice-captain remains not-out on 152 off 117 as the hosts win with a staggering 47 balls to spare.

India have now taken a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Three more boundaries for Rohit!

First, a hopeless, waist-height full-toss is pulled for four.

Then, Rohit moves away, stays low and scoops it past short-third for a boundary.

Lastly, he gets another high full-toss and lofts it over mid-off for four.

A memorable knock from the Indian captain comes to an end. He departs for 140 off 107.

The skipper tries to dab it towards square-leg for a single, the ball takes the leading edge and flies just over mid-wicket. That was a really close call. Nurse is not happy with the positioning of the fielder.

Bishoo bowls a no ball, Rohit drives the free-hit past covers for four. But that ball is also a no-ball. Rohit gets another free-hit, he comes down the track but fails to connect. Next ball, he rocks back and pulls it over mid-wicket for a boundary.

Kohli flicks it yet again for a boundary.

There was a wide-ish fine-leg and a deep square-leg in place for Thomas, but Kohli's shot was hit with the precision of a surgeon.

Leg-spinner Ashley Nurse comes into the attack. Kohli cuts the second ball of the over, he wasn't in complete control and the ball flew just over point for four.

Nurse drops it short and the right-handed opener pulls it hard for four.

West Indies skipper Jason Holder brings himself into the attack, his Indian counterpart Virat Kohli greets him with a boundary off the first ball of the over.

Another flick past mid-wicket, but debutant Hemraj should've done better to keep the ball inside after chasing it the fence.

To add insult to injury, Kemar Roach lets the ball right through him at short-fine and hand Kohli his second boundary of the over.

It looked like West Indies were finally going to get in an over without conceding a boundary, but it wasn't to be.

Roach bowled the fifth ball on Rohit's pads and got clipped over square-leg for four. Super shot from the right-hander.

West Indies are struggling big-time to contain the run-flow.

Thomas bangs it in, Kohli rolls his wrists and pulls it to the left of mid-wicket for four.

Thomas drops it short and wide on the next ball, Kohli cuts it powerfully over point for four.

The Indian captain is in a no-nonsense mood tonight.

Another expensive over from Thomas, nine runs came from it.

This time Kohli pulls it for a boundary. The ball was slightly over his head when the bat made contact, but the skipper did exceedingly well to roll his wrists and keep the ball down.

Seven runs came from that Kemar Roach over. India are starting to dominate the contest slowly.

And that's a hat-trick! Kohli flicks yet another one on the on-side for four. A very similar shot to the one he played in the previous over. Simply too good. You can't bowl on his pads!

SIX!

India get their first maximum of the innings, and it's no surprise that it has come from Rohit's bat.

Thomas makes the mistake of dropping it short, Rohit pulls it stylishly for six. There was hardly any flourish of the bat, yet the ball went a long way. Pure class from the Hitman.

That was an expensive over for the Windies, 18 runs came from it.

India's captain and vice-captain are at the crease. They're undoubtedly the two best batsmen in the side, if not the two finest ODI players in the world.

The duo will have to dig in deep to take India home tonight. The West Indies mean business.

This time Roach strays in line, the Indian skipper flicks it with precision past mid-wicket for four.

That's the greatness of Kohli. No matter what the situation, he never misses out on an opportunity to get boundaries.

Shikhar Dhawan gets a boundary by blasting one through covers, but he gets greedy and goes for another wild cut shot.

The 12 players present in the list are - Virat Kohli (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu, Rishabh Pant, MS Dhoni (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Syed Khaleel Ahmed.

India vs West Indies: Head-to-Head in ODIs

India have played 121 ODIs against West Indies so far. India have 56 of these while 61 were won by the West Indies. There has one tied match while three have ended without result.

While India are currently ranked secondi in the ICC ODI rankings, West Indies are placed 9th.
