Sri Lanka defeated India comprehensively in a Group B encounter of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 at the Kennington Oval on Thursday.
Stand-in skipper Angelo Mathews had no hesitation in winning the toss and electing to bat first in overcast conditions in London. India, though, proved their batting might by putting on a mammoth 321. Shikhar Dhawan cracked an impressive ton, with Rohit Sharma and Mahendra Singh Dhoni adding half-centuries.
Touted as the overwhelming underdogs, Lanka showed what they're capable of by making light work of the chase. Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera and Mathews were brilliant with the bat as they toyed with the famed Indian bowling line-up. In the end, Lanka won by seven wickets with eight balls to spare.
The result has blown open Group B. We have two potential quarter-finals on our hands now - India-South Africa and Pakistan-Sri Lanka.

Typical left-hander's elegance.
SL - 76/1 from 16 overs.

The right-handed opener is living dangerously.
Pandya bowls a maiden.
SL - 70/1 after 15 overs.
Boundary to end Bumrah's second over.
India would want another breakthrough now.
SL - 70/1 after 14 overs.
Sri Lanka look steady after the loss of their first wicket, but India haven't let them get far ahead.

This has been a dominant display with the bat by the defending champions.
Shikhar Dhawan was, of course, the star of the show with his classy ton.
Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni contributed well with half-centuries.
Seems like India have enough runs on the board, but cricket is a funny game.
Join us after a short break for Sri Lanka's reply.
What a finish by Kedar Jadhav. Ends the innings with 6, 4, 4 to take India to 321/6 off their 50 overs.

Perera to bowl the last over of the innings.
300 up for India with Dhoni sneaking a trademark double.
50 for Dhoni.
It's been an important innings in the context oft he game. Came off 46 balls.
The former India captain will need to strike some hefty blows in the final few balls of the innings.
Brilliant first five balls from Perera, just the two runs off them. Dhoni comes back on strike and ends the over with the biggest six of the day.
IND 297/5 after 48 overs.

16 runs from the over.
IND - 243/3 from 42 overs.
What a shot from Dhawan!
Walks across the wicket casually, hits a pick-up/pull shot for six.
Dhawan and Dhoni are rotating the strike well at the moment. Will need at least one hit to the boundary in each over from here on.

Dhawan inching closer to a century, Dhoni looking good at the other end.
Team India are 191/3 after 36 overs.

Hat-trick of boundaries for Dhawan!

Suck clean hitting. First an effortless pull, then a thundering square-cut for four.
IND - 160/2 after 28 overs.
Loud chants of Yuviii... Yuviiii... at the Kennington Oval in London!
Dhawan is going strong at the other end. Milks Malinga for two boundaries. The left-hander is unbeaten on 61 at the moment.
IND 148 - 2 after 27 overs.
This has been a perennial weakness for the Indian captain.
Every team in the world knows that they're supposed to bowl outside off-stump when Kohli walks in.
Lanka have pulled things back nicely. Yuvraj Singh is the new man at the crease. India would want him to play another good knock like the way he did against Pakistan.

The rains have arrived at the Kennington Oval in London.
IND - 127/0 after 24 overs.
Rohit is in majestic form at the moment.

23 dot balls for India so far. They are 17/0 after 5 overs.
