India brought their A game out in Edgbaston on Thursday to bully Bangladesh in the second semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Rohit Sharma's classy century helped the defending champions chase down a relatively low score of 264.
Skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and had little hesitation in choosing to bat first in overcast conditions in Birmingham. New ball bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave India two early wickets but opener Tamim Iqbal and keeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim put on a wonderful partnership for the third wicket to give Bangladesh the upper hand.
India, however, came back strongly in the middle overs with a couple of key breakthroughs by part-time spinner Kedar Jadhav. Bhuvi and Jasprit Bumrah, arguably the best death over pacers in the world, then ensured Bangladesh were restricted to 264.
From there on, it was all India. Opener Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma first put on a solid stand of 87. Then it was the turn of chase-master Kohli to join the party and take his side home. The right-handed duo remained unbeaten at the end - Rohit on 123 and Kohli on 96.
India will now face arch rivals Pakistan in the final on Sunday. With both teams in super form, it promises to be a cracker of a contest!
