The Yogi Adityanath government on Wednesday finally put to an end the a row with Baba Ramdev’s company Patanjali Ayurveda Limited by agreeing to transfer 50 acres of land to its subsidiary Patanjali Food Products for setting up a mega food park.

After Patanjali Yogapeeth General Secretary Acharya Balakrishna threatened to withdraw the Rs 6,000 crore food and herbal park from Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spoke to Baba Ramdev and assured him to transfer the land after approval from the Cabinet.

Acharya Balakrishna’s outburst came after the Central government served a notice to the Patanajali Food Products to submit papers related to land acquisition by June 15 or their project to set up Mega Food Park would stand cancelled. The Centre gives a subsidy of Rs 150 crore for setting up Mega Food Park under its Mega Food Park Scheme.

The Industrial Development Commissioner (IDC) Dr Anoop Chandra Pandey said that the state government had never cancelled the land allotted to the Patanjali Ayurveda Limited. “It had sought transfer of 50 acres of land to its subsidiary Patanjali Food Products for setting up a Mega Food Park. Since the 455 acres of land was allotted to Patanjali Ayurveda Limited, a Cabinet approval is required to the transfer the land to its subsidiary after effecting changes into the agreement,” claimed Dr Pandey.

The IDC claimed that a Cabinet note has already been drafted after the Chief Minister’s directive and the same will be put up during the next Cabinet meeting on June 12 for the approval of the file to transfer 50 acres of land.

The erstwhile Akhilesh Yadav government had allotted 455 acres of land to Patanjali Ayurveda Limited in Yamuna Expressway Authority area in Greater Noida in 2016 for setting up a Food and Herbal Park. The company had assured to invest Rs 6,000 and create job employment to over one lakh besides buying agri-produce from farmers in Uttar Pradesh

The company was to set-up manufacturing and processing units for production of organic agri-based products including food, vegetable, milk, milk-based products, herbal medicine and oil, fodder etc. The company was also to set-up a Research and Development Centre for developing newer products.

About 400 tonnes of vegetables and fruits and over 750 tons of organic flour were to be processed and manufactured in its mega plant. Then Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had also laid foundation stone on November 30, 2016 for setting up the Mega Food and Herbal Park.

The allotment of land by the previous regime to Baba Ramdev was marred under controversies. The matter landed into the Allahabad High Court when a PIL claimed that land earmarked as green belt area was also allotted to Patanjali. The High Court had stayed the state government’s move to change its land use.

Later, the matter was resolved and the stay was finally vacated after state government completed all legal formalities to change land use. The fresh controversy erupted as the transfer of 50 acres of land out of 455 acres to a new company was a violation of the agreement reached with the previous regime.
