World's largest mobile factory opens in India: 10 things to know

With the factory, Samsung now aims to produce 120 million of smartphones unit. Samsung also has a manufacturing unit in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu as well.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday along with South Korean President Moon Jae-in inaugurated world's largest smartphone factory in Uttar Pradesh. The factory is located in Noida's sector-81. With the factory, Samsung now aims to produce 120 million of smartphones unit.  Samsung also has a manufacturing unit in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu as well.

Below we have listed out five facts about the largest mobile factory in the world. 

1. Samsung has first opened its first electronics manufacturing facilities in the early 1990s, the plant started by manufacturing TVs in 1997. The present mobile phone manufacturing unit was added in 2005.

2. Last year in June, Samsung has announced a massive Rs 4,915 crore investment to expand the Noida plant. The mentioned plant will double the smartphone production. Samsung is aiming to manufacture 120 million phones a year. Currently, it's manufacturing 67 million smartphones. 

3. Samsung currently has 10 per cent of its overall production in India. With the Noida plant, it aims to take it to 50 per cent. 

4. The amount involved in the construction of the world's largest factory has been reportedly around Rs 4,000 crore. The factory will provide jobs to more than 2,000 people. Samsung also informed that the factory has been made under PM Modi's ambitious plan, Make in India. 

5. India has been ranked number two in mobile usage and in the last four years, the number of manufacturing factories in mobiles has gone up to 120 from two in 2014. 

6. Present at the occassion, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath said that the factory would give over 35,000 jobs directly and indirectly and hence the UP government made sure that the unit got the infrastructure and policy help on time, when required. 

7. In 2012, Samsung became the leader in mobile phones in the country and the Noida facility rolled out the first-ever "Galaxy S3" device. 

8. Samsung CEO thanked the Modi government over its support. "The completion of the factory was made possible by the cooperation of the Indian government and the government of Uttar Pradesh", he said. 

9. Besides smartphones, Samsung also manufactures other consumer products like refrigerators, television panels, smartphones at its Noida plant. 

10.  Samsung’s Noida plant also has a Research and Development Centre, as well as a design centre as well.
