Firm conditions prevailed at the wholesale market today as most of pulses led by urad and moong surging by up to Rs 600 per quintal on brisk buying by stockists backed by rising demand from retailers despite the government yesterday put imports of urad and moong dal under restricted category.

The government yesterday put imports of urad and moong dal under the restricted category and fixed a cap for its in-bound shipments up to three lakh tonnes.

The move will help in stabilising domestic prices that have fallen below the minimum support level and are hurting farmers.

Traders said increased buying by stockists backed by rising demand from retailers mainly pushed up urad, moong and other pulses prices.

Higher enquiries from dal mills also supported the upmove, they said.

In the national capital, urad and its dal chilka local gained the most by climing Rs 600 each to Rs 5,100-6,200 and Rs 5,200-5,300 per quintal, respectively. Its dal best quality and dhoya followed suit and traded higher by a similar margin to Rs 5,300-5,800 and Rs 5,700-5,900 per quintal.

Moong and its dal chilka local shot up by Rs 300 each to Rs 5,000-5,700 and Rs 5,700-5,900 per quintal respectively.

Its dal dhoya local and best quality enquired higher by the same margin to Rs 6,300-6,800 and Rs 6,800-7,000 per quintal.

Masoor small and bold rose by Rs 200 each to Rs 3,950- 4,150 and Rs 4,000-4,250 per quintal. Its dal local and best quality traded higher by a similar margin to Rs 4,250-4,750 and Rs 4,350-4,850 per quintal.

Malka local and best quality too finished higher by Rs 100 each to Rs 4,550-4,750 and Rs 4,650-4,850 per quintal.

In line with overall trend, moth shot up by Rs 300 to Rs 3,800-4,200 per quintal.

Arhar and its dal dara variety rose by Rs 100 each to Rs 4,500 and Rs 6,500-8,300 per quintal respectively.

Gram, gramdal local and best quality were up by Rs 200 each to Rs 5,900-6,700, Rs 6,600-7,000 and Rs 7,000-7,100 per quintal respectively.

Besan Shaktibhog and Rajdhani quoted higher at Rs 2,600 each instead of 2,500 each per 35 kg.

Following are today's pulses rates (in Rs per quintal): Urad Rs 5,100-6,200, Urad Chilka (local) Rs 5,200-5,300, Urad best Rs 5,300-5,800, Dhoya Rs 5,700-5,900, Moong Rs 5,000-5,700, Dal Moong Chilka local Rs 5,700-5,900, Moong Dhoya local Rs 6,300-6,800 and best quality Rs 6,800-7,000.

Masoor small Rs 3,950-4,150, bold Rs 4,000-4,250, Dal Masoor local Rs 4,250-4,750, best quality Rs 4,350-4,850, Malka local Rs 4,550-4,750, best Rs 4,650-4,850, Moth Rs 3,800-4,200, Arhar Rs 4,500, Dal Arhar Dara Rs 6,500-8,300.
