Trial runs today commenced at Karipur international airport, near here, to dispense with the stamping of hand baggage tags in compliance with the Civil Aviation Ministry's decision.

The trial runs will go on till August 27.

At present, the trial runs have been going on at the airport for domestic passengers in domestic terminal.

After successful completion of the trial runs, the ministry will decide on dispensing with the stamping of hand baggage completely in the International Terminal as well as Domestic Terminal at Calicut airport, according to a release from the Airport Director today.

Presently, a tag need to be put on the hand baggage of the passengers by the security personnel at the airport, as a mark of stamping.

Based on the stamping only the baggage is being allowed during the security check and during the boarding of the aircraft, the release added.

This was in line with the ministry's decision to dispense with stamping of hand baggage tags at six airports, including Calicut, in the third phase.
