The crisis in Jet Airways deepened on Friday as the airline could operate only 11 aircraft, leaving passengers stranded at various domestic and international airports and prompting the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) to hold an urgent meeting.

International flights have been cancelled till Monday, a spokesperson told DNA. The airline is working to minimise guest inconvenience using its 24x7 Contact Centre, Guest Relations and Social Media response teams.

They are handling schedule adjustments in line with defined regulatory guidelines, including offering re-accommodation choices or extending applicable refunds as the situation warrants.

In Mumbai, the firm's ground staff participated in a protest march, demanding issuance of pending salaries. "We just want clarity on our pending salaries," said one employee, "We are facing a lot of problems in our day to day life.

"We want to know what is happening in the management." Pilots, who have threatened to discontinue flying, will meet on Monday to decide the further course of action.

Meanwhile, a meeting was called after Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu asked the secretary of the department Pradeep Singh Kharola to review issues concerning the airline. After the meeting, Kharola spoke to the firm's management.

When asked if the airline has enough funds to keep the operations going on till Monday, the secretary replied in affirmative. He said that Jet Airways had a meeting with the bankers on Friday "wherein they put forth their demand" regarding interim funding. A consortium of lenders — leading with State Bank of India (SBI) - is currently handling the airline.

Kharola said that the bankers have asked the airline to "rework its proposal" regarding interim funding and present it on Monday.
