Spotify reportedly is planning to enter India in first quarter of 2019. The world's largest music-streaming service, according to a report in Bloomberg, is clearing one of its final hurdles to enter India.

Citing sources, the report stated that Spotify will launch in India within six months.

Earlier this year, at its ‘Investor Day’ event held in New York, Spotify made the official announcement regarding its Indian debut. The service will compete with Apple Music, Amazon Prime Music, Gaana, Google Play Music, Hungama, and Saavn in the country.

Spotify co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek had then stated, “We are working on launching in some of the biggest markets in the world, including India, Russia, and Africa which has a very rich musical culture.”

Spotify had also confirmed that it has employees and an office in India.

The company stated that it has 308 employees in aggregate in India and 20 other countries which include Australia, Brazil, Belgium, Singapore, Spain, and Turkey among others at the end of 2017.

In July, Spotify quietly rolled out a feature in Australia that allows users to skip ads, even for those who don't pay a subscription. Spotify, now one of the best-known digital music streaming services, has begun testing a new feature dubbed 'Active Media' that will give users the option to skip unwanted ads and continue listening to their music.

While it may sound counterintuitive, the company believes there is a lot to be gained from providing this feature. Danielle Lee, Spotify's global head of partner solutions, in an interview with Ad Age, said that this provides "a more engaging audience to our advertisers," as they could better match ads to certain demographics, and thus improve the outcome for the brands.

Spotify, which was founded in 2006 and launched operations in 2008, has led a major shake-up of the music world by allowing users to select on-demand from its library of 35 million songs.
