The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Limited (IRCTC) will soon stricter its rule to create user to login into its website. The move has come in wake of surveys done by Railways intelligence that had found many faults in the IRCTC website.

It has been revealed that because of flexible rules to create user id, many middlemen are creating fake ids due to which Railways bookings are suffering.

At present a user need to require a phone number and an email id to register to the IRCTC website. Sources told Zee Media Bureau that IRCTC will require customers to submit copy of either of their ID cards such as Aadhaar number, voter id in order to register.

Earlier, the Indian Railways have discontinued providing free travel insurance to its passengers starting September 1. The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), in a bid to promote digital transaction, had been giving free travel insurance to passengers since demonetisation.

Now, if passengers want to avail it, then they will have to shell out 68 paise premium as insurance. The insurance can be availed by only those who book tickets online. They, however, will be given two options, either to opt-in or opt-out.

Those booking tickets traditionally through computerized passenger reservation system (PRS) will not be able to opt for the facility.

IRCTC had sent emails to users about the same on Friday.

"Users who would like to opt for Passenger Travel Insurance will need to click a 'Yes' option provided for Travel Insurance in Passenger Reservation Form. All passengers with age of 5 years and above will be eligible for Travel Insurance," reads the email.

"The scheme is applicable to Indians. The premium is non-refundable," said a railway official.

The IRCTC insurance had a maximum cover of Rs10 lakh if a person died during the travel, Rs 7.5 lakh if a person becomes disabled in case of an accident, Rs 2 lakh if injured and Rs 10,000 for transportation of mortal remains. Sources said that before demonetisation, the railways were charging 60 paise.
