Ratan Tata pays tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, says he will be remembered fondly

Former chairman of Tata Sons, Ratan Tata paid his tribute on Thursday to the former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Ratan Tata said, "Those who know Vajpayees are saddened to hear of his passing away.  He was a great leader with a great sense of compassion and humour. He will be remembered fondly by a vast number of us". 

Vajpayee breathed his last in New Delhi at 5:05 PM today. 

Reacting to his demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I have no words, I am filled with emotions right now. Our respected Atal ji is no more. Every moment of his life he had dedicated to the nation."

Paying homage to India's former prime minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Central government on Thursday declared a seven day long national mourning. Education minister Manish Sisodia took to Twitter to inform that the schools and colleges will remain shut in New Delhi. 

Government offices in Uttar Pradesh will also remain shut on Friday, CM Yogi Adityanath said.

The body of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is being taken to his residence in the national capital where people can pay their last respects, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said. 

"Vajpayeeji's body is being taken to his residence where people can pay their last respect," the home minister told reporters here.Describing former prime minister's death as a "huge personal loss", Singh said he was pained beyond words at the demise of Vajpayee, who had cherished the ideal of a developed and powerful India.

"In Atalji's demise the nation has lost a stalwart who was known for statesmanship and astute leadership. Atalji was a true 'Ajatshatru' (man with no enemies) who had many friends across the political spectrum. He believed in political consensus and his beliefs had consequential effect on Indian politics," he said.

Vajpayee will be will be cremated at 1:30 pm tomorrow on the banks of the Yamuna. A Vajpayee memorial may come up near Smriti Sthal. A cabinet meeting has been called at 6:30 PM.
