India will host South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in this year to add more strategic heft to its growing bilateral economic partnership.

South Korea’s ambassador to India, Shin Bong-kil told this correspondent in New Delhi that President Moon Jae-in can soon be expected to visit India. The visit can be expected to deepen the already growing bilateral relationship.

The two sides India will look to build on convergences between PM Modi’s Act East policy and President moon’s new southern policy, which seek better ties with countries in the Indo-Pacific.

The south Korean envoy said that if PM Modi’s policy focusses on countries such as Japan and South Korea, President Moon’s “new southern policy” gives primacy to India among some other countries in the wider Indo-Pacific region.

South Korea and India have concluded a pact on shipbuilding, which was agreed upon during PM Modi’s visit to Seoul in 2015.
