Philips Lighting today announced top level reshuffle by elevating its South Asia head Harsh Chitale to global role, as the CEO of its b2b arm Business Group Professional.

Chitale, currently South Asia CEO, would be succeeded by Sumit Joshi, Head of Marketing Excellence of Philips Lighting, the company said in a statement.

In his his new role, Chitale will relocate to the Netherlands in September and replace Emmanuel Sabonnadi re. He would directly report to Philips Lighting CEO Eric Rondolat.

Joshi would report to Philips Lighting Market Group Leader - Growth Markets, Murali Sivaraman, it added.

Commenting on the development, Sivaraman said: "The new appointments reflect the company's commitment to leadership development and our tradition of growing talent across markets. This also emphasises the importance of the South Asian operations for Philips Lighting."

This year alone, more than two dozen employees from the operations in South Asia have taken up global and regional roles at the parent company across Europe and Asia, he added.

Chitale said: "I am delighted by this opportunity. Our professional business contributes significantly to our business globally and we are well positioned as the global market leader in lighting. I look forward to working closely with our professional team to continue to grow the business." Philips Lighting has four major verticals - Lamp, LED, Professional and Home.

Earlier, Philips Lighting South Asia chief human resources officer Kiran Brar was elevated to global role and is now Global Head of Lighting University.

Bidhu Bhushan Mohanty, previous CFO Philips Lighting, South Asia, is now Financial Controller MET (Middle East and Turkey).

"Philips Lighting has a long tradition of building global talent. Philips Lighting s South Asian operations have steadily contributed to the global organisation," said Sivaraman.

Chitale, who led the South Asian business of Philips Lighting from January 2015, helped the company to drive in the leadership position in the fast growing LED and Professional businesses.

Joshi, who joined Philips in 2011 as Marketing Director for Philips Lighting India, has more than 19 years experience in marketing and business leadership roles. Besides Philips, he has worked with companies such as Whirlpool, Boots, Marico and Britannia.

"South Asia is a critically important market for Philips Lighting and we are committed to this market. We have an excellent team and I look forward to returning to India to further grow our business and expand our market leadership in the region," said Joshi.
