The Income Tax department reportedly would not extend the deadline of August 31 for linking Aadhaar Card to your Pan card.

Earlier, this month the IT department did extend the last day to August 31, however, it made it cleared that the returns would not be processed, if the linking could not be done.

The reason behind the earlier extension was too many compalaints from the tax payers as they were not able to do the same because of having different names on their required documents.

DNA Money was the first to report on July 16 that there have been issues of linking Aadhaar number with the PAN card because of mismatch in information which had prompted the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to write a letter to UIDAI, the agency managing Aadhaar, asking them to resolve the matter as the deadline for filing I-T returns was near.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court verdict on Aadhaar breaching privacy triggered the rumours that now, right to privacy being the fundamental right, the linkage of Pan-Aadhar might not be mandatory. But various media reports suggest that might not be the case.

The government had made mandatory the linking of the two databases for filing ITRs from July, 1 this year.

As the deadline is just three more days away, following is a step-wise guide on how to do it online.

Step 1: An individual first has to register on the official  tax e-filing online portal

Step 2: After registration, the person is required to fill in the log in details such as log in id,password and date of birth.

Step 3: After that a pop up would emerge asking you to link your PAN card with Aadhar,if not then lick on “profile settings” and then “Link Aadhaar”.

Step 4: After the above step, a page would open with auto filled details of an individual.

Step 5: If the details match, enter your Aadhaar card number and click on the “Link Aadhaar” button.

Step 6: After completing all the steps you can see a message come stating that the linking has been done successfully.
