On right track: Ahmedabad gets Rs 592 cr for Metro in Gujarat Budget

The state government allocated Rs 592 crore for the Ahmedabad Metro project, besides funds for a number of other civic projects.

Announcing the budget, deputy CM Nitin Patel said that the Metro rail project would help in mitigating the traffic problems and strengthening urban transport system in Ahmedabad. The government made provision of Rs 100 crore for bio-mining project at Pirana dumping site, and Rs 65 crore for a split flyover bridge at Pallav Char Rasta.

The deputy CM also announced a provision of Rs 25 crore for Gandhigram Railway Underpass (from Nehru bridge towards Nagari Hospital), and Rs 20 crore for renovation of Sanskar Kendra museum and construction of World Heritage City Museum. Ahmedabad will also get funds under the Smart City Mission, Shaheri Awas Yojana, and Amrut Yojana, said officials. Patel also announced provision of Rs 20 crore fro starting light and sound show at Sabarmati Ashram, and other places related to Mahatma Gandhi.

Mayor Gautam Shah welcomed the financial allocation made for various projects in Ahmedabad city, saying it will boost development in the city. Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi, however, said that the government announces funds for various projects, but hardly pays anything to the civic body.
