NHAI incentivises its officials to implement Bharatmala Project

Taking a cue from the private sector wherein performing employees are rewarded, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) too has offered incentives to implement ‘Bharatmala’ project to stick to the given timeline.

“In order to expedite implementation of the Bharatmala Pariyojna, the project launched by the Government of India with prime focus on optimising efficiency of the movement of goods and people across the country, NHAI has decided to start an incentive scheme for its officials,” read NHAI’s statement released on Friday.

As per the plans, the incentive scheme will not only help in achieving the project as per the schedule but may also help in completing project implementation before the deadline.

There would be cash rewards apart from certificate of appreciation and trophies.

In October the Union Cabinet had approved Road Building Program over the next five years wherein a capital expenditure of Rs 6.92 lakh crore will be incurred for 83,677 kms of road. This Road Building Program includes India’s biggest highway development project – Bharatmala.

Under the Bharatmala Project, Rs 5.35 lakh crore will be spent to have 34,800 kms of roads. There would be Economic Corridors (9,000-kms), Inter Corridor and Feeder Route (6,000-kms), National Corridors Efficiency Improvement (5,000-kms), Border Roads and International Connectivity (2,000-kms), Coastal Roads and Port Connectivity (2,000-kms), Greenfield Expressways (800-kms), Balance National Highways Development Project works (10,000-kms), etc.

In the first phase of Bharatmala Project, 2,000-kms of Coastal Roads and Port Connectivity will be constructed starting 2018.
