New DGCA Citizen Charter to protect fliers & airlines: Jayant Sinha

The Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha, in an exclusive talk with Zee Business's Sameer Dixit, said the new charter being prepared by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will be an effective policy and will address the rights of passengers and ensure their safety while flying.

While discuss the intention behind the Citizen Charter, which will presumably end the monopoly of airlines, the minister said, "This is going to be a consultative process — we have had discussions with several airlines as well as airports. Soon, a draft will be available on a public platform for comment. The final charter will be based on recommendations and suggestions from all sides."

Several airlines have opposed the charter, specifically the penalty that might go up to Rs 20,000. "The charter will be created in a balanced way and will also talk about the interests and rights of airlines," Sinha assured. "Penalties will be charged, only if airlines are found to be guilty."
