The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has sought justification from a consortium of Reliance Infrastructure that had quoted around Rs 1,300 crore more than MSRDC's estimations for the construction of the 9-km-long Bandra-Versova Sea-Link (BVSL), MSRDC officials confirmed.

The MSRDC had opened bids for BVSL two weeks ago in which a consortium of Reliance Infrastructure was found to be the lowest bidder despite quoting Rs 6,993 crore against Rs 5,516 crore, an estimation quoted by MSRDC.

An official from MSRDC, said, "Following the consortium of Reliance Infrastructure quoting more than the estimation of MSRDC, we had sought justification from Reliance Infrastructure. Subsequently, the justification will be tabled at the board meeting."

The MSRDC official, added, "The board of directors will take further decisions on whether to negotiate or go for re-bidding. However, considering the estimation of civil construction quoted by us is of more than a year ago we might negotiate with Reliance Infrastructure but it will depend on the final decision."

However, an email query sent to Reliance Infrastructure did not yield any response till the time of going to the press.

Other bidders include Larsen & Toubro in a joint venture with Samsung, and Hyundai in a joint venture with ITD Cementation. However, their estimation was not the lowest. Along with this, a Chinese company that had qualified for the bidding did not submit the bids fearing denial of security clearance, DNA reported on March 13.
