Karnataka bandh: Here's how Bengaluru shutdown impacts Infosys, Wipro and other IT firms

The Karnataka bandh had negatively impacted the major IT firms in Bengaluru as industry's biggies like Infosys, Wipro among others had to shutdown their operations for the day. 

Infosys campus on the outskirts of Bengaluru and other locations were closed on Thursday till 6.30 in the evening, due to which the campuses in Mysuru and Mangaluru were also shut down. 

Taking the precautionery measure, Wipro also declared a holiday for its employees in Karnataka on Thursday. 

‘On account of the shutdown called by various organizations, as a precautionary measure, Wipro Limited has declared holiday for employees in Karnataka today. Business Continuity Plans have been invoked to avoid disruption to mission critical project,’ Wipro said. 

The Whitefield and Manyata Tech Park areas in the city that are homes of IT major like Microsoft, IBM and Cognizant were also closed for the day. 

Public transport like buses, taxis stayed off the roads, with schools, colleges, offices, hotels, restaurants, malls and markets closed till the evening, disrupting normal life in the city.

Several examinations have also been rescheduled.

Petrol bunks, banks and agriculture Produce Marketing Committees will function as usual.

The Mahadayi river dispute has halted normal life in Karnataka after several pro-Kannada outfits called for state-wide bandh on Thursday. The protesters are demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention in the inter-state river water dispute with Goa.

Meanwhile, state capital Bengaluru has been turned into a fort with as many as 15,000 cops guarding the city. 

The police said that it will deal sternly with such miscreants. 

Pro-Kannada activists Vatal Nagaraj and Praveen Shetty on Wednesday told the press that there will be no transport services on Thursday and other services will be shut down as well.

"We will stop everything. Bus, train, flight all services will be stopped. We will stop all services tomorrow," Shetty said at the press conference.

However, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) have decided to operate buses as usual.

Karnataka and neighbouring Goa have conflicting interests on the issue of sharing Mahadayi River water. While the river originates in Karnataka, a major part of it flows in Goa.
