Reliance Jio on Thursday launched the advanced version of JioPhone, JioPhone 2. Addressing the 41st annual general meeting in Mumbai, Mukesh Ambani said that his firm is planning to integrate online and offline marketplaces using its flagship technology platform Jio. Mukesh Ambani highlighted that Jio's subscribers grew from 124 million at the end of last year to 210 million at the end of FY18.
While introducing the JioPhone 2, Mukesh Ambani invited Isha and Akash Ambani on stage to demonstrate the new functions.
JioPhone 2, just like the older version will work on KAI operating system. In terms of specifications, JioPhone 2 boasts of a 2.4-inch QVGA display and comes with a QWERTY keypad. The smartphone also has a 4-way navigation key. JioPhone 2 is a dual sim device and supports LTE Bands 3, 5, 40 and 2GB Band- 900/1800.
The JioPhone will come with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of ROM. On the camera front, the JioPhone 2 has a 2-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front camera. The phone supports download speeds of up to 150Mbps and upload speeds of 50 Mbps. The device is backed by a 2000mAh battery and supports Voice over LTE and Voice over WiFi.
The phone packs 4GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via a SD card card.
As far as the cameras are concerned, the Jio Phone 2 packs a 2-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 0.3-megapixel front shooter for selfies.
In terms of connectivity, the options available in JioPhone 2 are Wi-Fi, Global Positioning System (GPS), Bluetooth, Near-field communication (NFC) and frequency modulation (FM).
JioPhone 2 will also come with Youtube, WhatsApp and Facebook app. The new Jio Phone 2 will hit the markets by August 16 this year and will be available at a price of Rs. 2999.
Mukesh Ambani in his speech also announced Jio Monsoon Dhamaka. Under the offer, the old JioPhone user can exchange their JioPhone with the new one in a price of just Rs 501. The offer is valid till July 21.
