Three aircrafts belonging to the fleet low-cost carrier (LCC) IndiGo have been grounded due to engine related issues, the civil aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Saturday.

A senior DGCA official said three Airbus A320neo planes of IndiGo have been taken out of operation because of some technical issues. However, rival airline Go Air's A320neo fleet has no such issue.

"The above issue is entirely different from No. 3 bearing failure and combustion chamber failure experienced initially by PW1100 engines, which have been addressed.” the official said.

Technical issues with certain engines of IndiGo's A320neo planes had led to the grounding of many flights last year. IndiGo, in turn, was handsomely compensated for the losses it incurred.

A senior official of Indigo confirmed receiving the recommendations by Pratt & Whitney as well as EASA with respect to the A320neo aircrafts powered by PW1100G-JM engines.

'The recommendations are with respect to a certain sub-population of engines, with a particular engine configuration. IndiGo has only three such affected aircraft," the official said on Saturday.

According to the airline officials, they have withdrawn the three A320neo planes from service w.e.f. February 9.

"The affected passengers have been accommodated in our other connections and flights of other airlines. The passengers have also been given choice of a full refund," the official said.

According to civil aviation industry analyst, out of 100 plus A320neo planes, delivered with PW1100G – JM engines globally, 11 aircraft have this particular configuration on both engines and around 21 aircraft have this particular configuration on one of their engines.
