India M&A hits record high in 2018, surpasses 2007 record

The value of announced mergers & acquisitions (M&A) deals involving Indian companies reached $125.2 billion so far this 2018, a 98.1% increase in value, surpassing the annual record set in 2007 ($67.4 billion).

9.3% – growth in the number of announced deals from a year ago

$132.8 million – increase in the average M&A deal size of transactions in 2018

$5 bn & above – five mega deals compared to only one during the same period last year

$67.1 bn – total cross-border inflows, up 96.6% over last year

70.6% – increase in M&A activity from a year ago

22.1% – of deals were accounted by the materials sector, at $27.7 bn

$18.3 billion – worth of transactions recorded by the retail sector

5 times – rise in outbound deal value from last year
