India, Bahrain sign pact to boost investment

India and Bahrain signed agreements in the field of healthcare and renewable energy and decided to enhance investments in both countries to give a boost to bilateral ties.

The decisions were taken as External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is on a visit to Bahrain. She called on Bahrain's Prime Minister Khalifa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa on Sunday and co-chaired the second joint commission meeting with her counterpart to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral ties.

"The two sides noted the existing potential for two-way investments and reaffirmed their desire to provide favourable environment for investments, both from public and private sectors, from the two countries. Both sides agreed on the importance of regular and timely exchange of information on available investment opportunities," the joint statement said.

The two sides also welcomed the signing of the Agreement on Exemption from Short Stay Visa for holders of Diplomatic and Official/Special Passports. They agreed to consider further liberalisation of visa regime for each other's nationals.

Earlier, Swaraj began her engagements by meeting her counterpart and a close friend of India, Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.
