In just 16 months, Reliance Jio becomes country's third largest telecom firm

Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Jio has now become country's third-largest telecom company. Ambani's firm achieved this milestone in just 16 months of its operations. 

In December quarter for FY18, Market share of Reliance Jio expanded to 19.7 per cent, which was higher higher than Idea Cellular Ltd.

Presently, Reliance Jio is now just 90 basis points from acquiring the spot of being second-largest firm in the telecom sector, Bloomberg Quint reported. 

According to the report, Reliance Jio’s revenue market share increased by 584 basis points compared to the last quarter.

Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio has come to be known as ‘the disruptor’ in the telecom sector. 

With a subscriber base that touched 16 crore, Jio was fourth largest telecom player in the country, but now it has ranked one spot higher.

Over the course of three to four years, Jio is estimated to pump $23 billion in the company’s operations ‘beyond wireless services’, a report by TelecomTalk said.

The 4G entrant is planning to launch enterprise services like unified communications, Multiprotocol Label Switching (a protocol for high-speed telecom traffic) networks, Internet Protocol-Virtual Private Networks, cloud services, and managed video-conferencing, among others.
