The former finance minister and senior Congress leader, P. Chidambaram on Wednesday had said that the Reserve Bank of India should release the documents related to the demonetization excersise. 

Attacking the PM Narendra Modi led government, P Chidambaram said millions of people suffered due to note ban and no one can deny that lives and jobs were lost due to demonetisation.

As the government celebrated 'anti-black money day',the former Union Finance Minister said on this “black day, people should read real-life stories and say a prayer for the millions who suffered.

He further said that, "In interest of transparency, Government and the Central Bank should release RBI Board's agenda, background note and Dr Raghuram Rajan's note".

"If the government is confident of its decision then why does it fear releasing these documents?", he asked. 

Meanwhile, on the anniversary of the government's bold move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the benefits of the same shared a video from his twitter handle.

The seven minutes long video underlines the need and importance of ban on high-value currency.

The video depicts demonetization as one of the bravest steps taken by Prime Minister Modi after coming to power in 2014.

The video says that the country was suffering from the menace of corruption and black money before 2014 and the decision of demonetization was a step to 'clean the Indian economy'.
