The  Kalkaji Mandir-Botanical Garden line of the Delhi Metro, which will reduce travel time between Noida and south Delhi, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath would also attend the ceremony tomorrow. While the preparations are in full swing for the inaugration of the much-awaited Delhi Metro's Magenta Line, here are five things you should know about it.

Noida to South Delhi in just 18 minutes

The Botanical Garden has been developed as the metro's first-ever inter-change station outside the boundaries of Delhi. After this new section of the Delhi Metro is opened, commuters will be able to travel directly to Kalkaji Mandir Metro Station, which is on the Violet Line, cutting the travel time by about 45 minutes.

Once the entire corridor from Botanical Garden till Janakpuri West (38.23 km) is opened, commuters from Noida will be able to go to Gurgaon by changing trains at Hauz Khas station.

Trains will run at a frequency of 5 minutes and 14 seconds.

Tickets costs will be reduced

The 12.64-km metro stretch has nine stations – Botanical Garden, Okhla Bird Sanctuary, Kalindi Kunj, Jasola Vihar-Shaheen Bagh, Okhla Vihar, Jamia Millia Islamia, Sukhdev Vihar, Okhla NSIC and Kalkaji Mandir.

At present, because of the blue line commuters from Noida have to cross 10 stations to reach Mandi House butnow because of the Botanical garden's first-ever inter-change station, the travel time will be reduced and the cost of the ticket too would be Rs 30 from Rs 50.

First driver-less metro

Metro's new generation trains, which can run without drivers, will run on this section where an advanced Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling technology that will facilitate the movement of trains with a frequency of 90 to 100 seconds will also be pressed into service.

However, for an initial period of two-three years, the trains will have drivers.

Magenta line to have free wi-fi access at all stations

The trains on Magenta Line will have Wi-Fi, USB ports and charging points.
LCD screens have also been installed in the trains which will display videos, graphics and other information.

Change in seat design

The new trains will have red, pink, orange and blue seats, along with a backrest near the wheelchair area.

The tunnel between Kalkaji Mandir and NSIC Okhla passes below piers 135 and 136 of the Violet Line and the distance between the two piers is 28 metres, making it difficult to construct twin tunnels within such a short space. Hence, the DMRC decided to construct a single tube twin tunnel through which both tracks could pass using the NATM technology.
