Nandan Nilekani made his much-awaited comeback to Infosys on Thursday as the new boss of the second largest IT giant in the country.

Nilekani has been appointed as the chairman of the company's Board in place of R Seshasayee.

But how did the big comeback happen? According to a report published in CNBC-TV18, the official announcement of Nilekani's returning came on Thursday evening. This was preceded by a two-part meeting of the Board, the first part of which was presided over by former Chairman R Seshasayee, who stepped down from his position as the Board Chairman.

Quoting sources, the report further said, "Nilekani joined after the resignations of ex-chief executive Vishal Sikka and two other members of the board- Jeffrey Lehman, John Etchemendy- were accepted".

The report also stated that it was ex co-chairman Ravi Venkatesan who played a key role in talks between the founders and board on Thursday.

Nilekani also told the Board that founder Murthy had asked him to return to the company. In fact, in his address to shareholders on Friday, he praised Murthy and termed him as 'father of corporate governance'.

Meanwhile, Nandan Nilekani assured stakeholders of the firm's continuous growth.

Eager to quell apprehensions over the recent churn within the company Nilekani emphasised on stability among the board members, "We have a very stable board. I have full support of all members, so stability is now in place".

At present, Infosys Board consists of eight members, including Nandan Nilekani.
