Gujarat: Raids unearth Rs 1,000 cr GST evasion by oil millers

The suppliers would prepare a bill in the name of the buyer, but the bill would be dispatched to another trader, who would use it to get a tax credit from the government

State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) Commissionerate on Friday unearthed evasion of GST worth Rs 1,000 crore during raids at 46 locations in Saurashtra and north Gujarat. Authorities are investing 28 firms in the matter. According to SGST officials, there were reports of millers and traders using fake bills for supply of mustard another oils.

The suppliers would prepare a bill in the name of the buyer, but the bill would be dispatched to another trader, who would use it to get a tax credit from the government. According to initial estimates, value of fake bills exceed Rs 1,000 crore. It has also seized incriminating documents from the tax evaders.

"Deesa based Khushiya Industries alone is estimated to have collected Input Tax Credit (ITC) to the tune of Rs 20 crore. We have attached the properties and assets of the company and are pursuing the case," said a statement of SGST Commissionerate. There are instances where rice barn oil was bought from other states but was sold in Gujarat without bills. In such cases Input Tax Credit was claimed on Integrated GST (IGST), causing a loss of revenue to the state exchequer. SGST authorities in Gujarat also conducted joint operation with their counterparts in Karnataka, where it was found that a number of companies are involved in tax evasions.

Companies against whom action has been initiated include Deesa-based Ganesh Canvasing, Tulsi Trading Co, Vraj Oil Mill, Ravi Oil Mill, Radha Raman Enterprise, Gopinath Trading Company, Bajran Oil Mill, Maher Trading Co, Pranam Industries, Jay Veer Oil Mill, Kuber Oil Mill, Janak Oil Mill, Nikhil Oil Mill, Umang Oil Mill, Shivam Oil industries, Ankit Industries and Bhavya Oil Industries (all based out of Gondal), Jamnagar based Shiv Industries and New Shri Raj Provision Store, Khedbrahma-based Uttam Trading Co, Mehsana-based Shree Ambica Agro Industries and Sun Industries, Shre Sai Krupa Industries (Patan), Shree Chamunda Agro Industries (Siddhpur), Ganesh Proteins (Surat) as well as Unjha-based Shree Hardik Corporation and Shree Good Luck Cotton Industries.

  • Suppliers would pre-pare bills in the name of buyers and would dispatch them to other traders, who would use them to get  tax credit. 
     
  • There are cases where rice barn oil was bought from other states and sold here without bills.
