Gold import slips 72% in Mar, rises 45% for whole year in Ahmedabad

Gold import in Ahmedabad ended the financial year on a weak note with a 72% decline for the month of March. However, import of the yellow metal was up 45% for the year on the whole.

According to GSECL, which handles cargo at Ahmedabad airport, import of gold for March was 3.173 tonne, as compared with 11.45 tonne for the same month of previous financial year. The import data shows that gold import for March was the second lowest in the past six months. Gold import at the city airport was 5.23 tonne in October, 14.40 tonne in November, 13.18 tonne in December, 2.65 tonne in January, and 7.50 tonne in February.

For whole of 2017-18, gold import at the city airport was 74.30 tonne, up 45% over 50.88 tonne seen in the year before that. Incidentally, gold import was the second lowest in the last seven years for which the data was available.
