Fuel prices February 15: Petrol reaches Rs 89 per litre in Delhi, diesel crosses Rs 79

Petrol and diesel prices increased for the seventh consecutive day on Monday. In Delhi, petrol is now close to Rs 89 per litre, which is the most expensive rate so far. Diesel has also crossed Rs 79 per litre. It was the most expensive in Delhi in the last week of July when the price was Rs 81.94 per litre and petrol rate was Rs 80.43 per litre.

The highest price of petrol in metro cities is in Mumbai, where the rate is Rs 95.46 per litre. Diesel, on the other hand, is Rs 86.34 per litre.

Why the prices of petrol diesel are increasing

Actually, Brent crude has crossed $62 per barrel in the global market due to the hope of a relief package in the US. After the coronavirus pandemic, the economic conditions of the world are also showing improvement, resulting in rising demand for fuel. In the global market, Brent crude went up by $1.29 per barrel to $62.43 per barrel. On the other hand, due to no relief in duty from the central government and the state governments, the price of petrol and diesel has increased. There are chances that if this continues, petrol prices will cross Rs 100 per litre in no time.

Petrol touching sky-high prices in Delhi

Petrol in Delhi on Monday became expensive by 26 paise to reach Rs 88.99 per litre, which is a new record. In Mumbai also, petrol has reached Rs 95.46 per litre. In Kolkata, petrol is being sold for Rs 90.25 per litre while in Chennai, the price of petrol is Rs 91.19 per litre. At Rs 99.56, petrol price in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan is the highest in the country, while for diesel here, you will have to pay Rs 91.48 per litre.

On the other hand, diesel in Mumbai is Rs 86.34 per litre, which is the most expensive rate in metros so far. Diesel is also priced at Rs 79.35 per litre in Delhi, Rs 82.94 per litre in Kolkata and petrol in Chennai at Rs 84.44 per litre.

Diesel was also Rs 64.77 per litre on February 15, 2020, which means diesel has also become costlier by Rs 14.58 in one year.
