Four more accused held for PNB scam

The CBI has arrested four more accused from Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi’s companies on Sunday in the Punjab National Bank fraud case worth Rs 12,636 crore.

The agency arrested two employees and an auditor of Modi group of companies and firms and a director of Choksi’s Gitanjali group. With four people arrested on Sunday, the total number of arrested accused, which also include former and present PNB employees, in the case has gone up to 17.  

The agency arrested Manish K Bosamiya, then assistant general manager (operation) and Miten Anil Pandya, then Finance Manager, both of Firestar International Ltd.They were arrested for their alleged role in the preparation of applications for the fraudulent Letters of Undertakings submitted to PNB.

The agency arrested Sanjay Rambhia, partner in Chartered Accountant firm Sampat and Mehta in Mumbai. He has also been arrested in the on-going investigation as he was responsible for auditing the Modi’s companies.

The fourth person arrested has been identified as Aniyath Shiv Raman Nair, then director of Gili India Ltd in the ongoing investigation of the case. It was alleged that besides being one of the directors of Gitanjali Group of companies, he was the authorised signatory for the applications made to PNB for issuance of purported letters of undertaking and foreign letters of credit.

Three days ago, the CBI had arrested a Chief Manager, Internal Chief Auditor (retd), Bishnubrata Mishra, who was responsible for concurrent audit for the period 2011-2015 at PNB Brady House branch. He was responsible for auditing the procedures and practices followed in the PNB branch and report them.
