ECR registers 7.15 pc increase in goods transportation

East Central Railway (ECR) has set a record by transporting 31.24 million tonne of goods in the first quarter of the current fiscal, registering a 13.82 per cent increase from corresponding period last year.

During April to June in the last financial year, ECR had transported 27.44 million tonne of freight, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Rajesh Kumar said in a statement here today.

The figure is 7.15 per cent more than the target of 29.15 million tonne set by the Railway Board to ECR, he said.

Coal and items associated with it are transported in bulk through ECR, which comprise Dhanbad, Sonepur, Danapur, Samastipur and Mughalsarai divisions.

The zone with its headquarter at Hajipur in Bihar's Vaishali district, also registered good progress in wagon loading in the month of June this year.

In June 2017, on an average 5,178 wagons were loaded, which was 4,823 wagons during the same month last fiscal, an increase by 7.4 per cent, the CPRO said.
