The e-way bill system for the intra-state movement of goods under the new indirect tax regime will be rolled out in five states from 15 April.

Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will implement the intra-state e-way bill system from 15 April, the finance ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

The e-way bill for the movement of goods worth over Rs 50,000 within a state is already operational in Karnataka from 1 April.

As per the decision of the Goods and Services Tax Council, the e-way bill system for all inter-state movement of goods was rolled out from 1 April along with the intra-state system in Karnataka.

Until 9 April, over 63 lakh e-way bills have been successfully generated, the ministry said.

“With the rollout of the e-way bill system in these states, it is expected that trade will be further facilitated, paving the way for a single e-way bill system nationwide.”

Every week, four to five states are likely to roll out the system.
